Routine & Motivation

When I was naive and childish, which means younger than I am now, I'd bounce around from job to job for multiple reasons. I didn't like the people I worked with, I didn't like my manager, it was too far, they didn't pay me well, I was expected to work more than what my title was, they always wanted me to work overtime, etc.... As I think about it now, they were just excuses not to work because let's be honest, when you don't work you have more fun. You get to sleep in. You get to go to the park. You get to go to the store and window shop. You get to hang out with friends and family. Life is just more fun when you don't have to work. There comes a point in your life though that you start seeing the bigger picture. You have to work to survive. Work means rent. Work means clothes on your back and food on your table sometimes. Food stamps only go so far, especially when you're in the midst of an inflation. Work means you can go to the movies or Lagoon if you wanted. Everything in the world costs money these days. There was a free movie in the park the other day that my family and I went to but it still technically wasn't free because I still had to get gas to be able to get there and then I have children, so I needed snacks. Otherwise, I could have spent money at the food trucks that were there. Even the free pool day that the kids went to, wasn't really free because I'm not letting the kids out in the sun for 3 hours without sunblock or drinks, so I spent money on those. Unfortunately, we are now in a world where money is needed for just about everything and money is what makes the world go round. Work can be fun though, if you make it fun. Perspective is what you make it. Also, having motivation helps. My motivation is my family. I work my life away 6:30am-3pm Monday-Friday. Sometimes I'll pick up extra shifts on Saturdays or stay later during the week so I can make that paycheck just a little higher.
